THING I WISH I KNEW BEFORE STARTING UNIVERSITY!

For the new students preparing to start University or for people already in University and have no idea on how to deal with University life, I will be sharing with you things I wished I knew and things you need to know before and during University.

Even though I have successfully completed my accounting degree, now reflecting on my experience and personal journey, there are certain things I wish I knew about studying at University level that I never did.

below are the few things I wish I knew and you should know before and during University.

  • BE PRO-ACTIVE

As a first, second or even third year University student, you do not have to wait and see how the year goes. Chilled attitude will not really get you through University. You have to put in the work from the start. Do your assignment/coursework from the start. Always be prepared for every lecture and most importantly, always ask questions if you are not clear on something.

  • EVERY STUDENT ON THE SAME COURSE AS YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT PATH

Another thing I have learnt during my three years in University is that every student has a different path. Most students will study every day to achieve the highest grade possible while others will rather attend networking event and try to secure their first internship. This can put pressure on you if you do not have any plan on what you want to do after University. However, you should not feel pressured to follow your peer’s footsteps. Instead, you should focus on your own skills and abilities and how you can enhance them.

  • DO NOT STUDY HARD! STUDY SMART!

Another thing I wish I knew before starting University is that it’s not all about studying hard but studying smart. Staying up all night trying to finish an assignment earlier or studying all night in other to pass that exam. One of the new tips have learnt is that, when you do not know what topic to study on/about, you should always contact your lecturers and ask them what topic you should spend most of your time studying.

  • READ/STUDY TO UNDERSTAND

Last but not least, at no point should you focus on memorising. Instead, you should focus on studying to understand. Studying at University level is going to be time consuming. You will have a lot of readings to do, papers to write and deadlines to meet. However, you will always have access to study material and case studies. This study materials are considered useful and helpful. If you find an important information, elaborate more on it. This way, you are not just memorising but studying to understand.

I hope someone out there found this helpful and as I am currently backI can’t wait to share with my readers what it feels like been back at University.

PERSONAL | DEAR DIARY, I HAVE SO MUCH TO TELL YOU…..

Dear diary, I have so much to tell you… a lot has happened since the last time I wrote down what I feel. I have a lot of stories I am yet to share with you, and I am sorry I have distanced myself from you.

1, I just want to confess to you that since the start of the year, I have been constantly losing and finding myself.

life has always had a way of sneaking in on me. Just when I thought I am finally getting the pieces right, just when I thought I am finally getting things into place and having a good routine for my daily life, I will get lost once again.

2, People still have an old picture of me that does not add up to the new me!

People think they know me through the contents i put out. people have created a certain picture of me, and when I do not fit into this their specific idea of me, they think things don’t add up. People still have this old picture of me that does not add up to the new one. Since the start of the year, I have tried to show more of myself and the new side of me but I’ve heard people say ‘oh that’s not you’ or ‘I like the old you, you’ve changed’ therefore, I have come to realise that you really can’t please people.

Dear Diary, I still have so much more to share with you, but I need to get my thoughts and words together first and I will be back!

Saying positive affirmations

Affirmations are used to promote self confidence and believe in your own abilities.

At some point in our lives, we’ve affirmed ourselves without even realising it. By saying things like:

• “Everything is possible”

• “I’ve got what it takes to get that job, that degree, etc…

• “I will try my best”

However, do affirmations actually work? Yes they do.

Affirmations has helped me remain positive. It as worked as a tool in achieving my goals and as helped me develop a success-oriented mindset.

Also, authors like Mark Manson, Vex king, Jen Sincero, have all mentioned in their books how affirmation works and how it has worked for them.

I’ve learnt to replace negative thoughts like:

⁃ “I’m tired and I don’t have the energy to do that right now”.

To affirmations like:

⁃ I can do it and I’m going to get it done now.

This particular thought often occurs whenever I do not have the motivation to read or write for my blog. However, replacing it with a positive affirmation has been one of the ways I get through it.

I will recommend you create a daily affirmations for yourself and you will be surprised how this will boost your motivation and confidence. (With action). When you believe you can do something, your actions follow.

My everyday affirmations are:

• I am so proud of myself

• I believe in myself

• I will always get it done

• Today is going to be a great day

• I have the power to change my life

• I am open to receiving all the good things life will bring my way

• I am blessed and grateful

• Everything that is happening now is happening for my ultimate good.

• My thoughts are filled with positivity and my life is full of prosperity.

• My ability to conquer my challenges is limitless; my potential to succeed is infinite.

PERSONAL: WAYS I RELAX AND UNWIND

Hey lovelies! hope you’ve had a splendid week, and welcome to a new week on kennysdiary.

In today’s blog post, I will be writing about the ways I relax and unwind after a long week.

At the end of a long stressful week, it is only right you give yourself the chance to relax and unwind. Not only is it a good form of selfcare, it is also good and important for your mental and physical health.

Here are the three ways in which I relax and unwind after a long day/week

READING

One of the great ways I help my brain unwind after a long week, is by reading a book for few minutes. I find reading magnificent! It’s like an escape from the stress of everyday life. According to research, reading is proven to help reduce stress.

WATCHING DOCUMENTARIES

Nature documentary, Is one of the documentaries I enjoy watching on Netflix when I want to relax. I find it soothing and therapeutic. Whenever you want to relax, I will recommend you watch our planet documentary and let the beauty and majesty of nature help you relax and unwind.

Ps: the one I’m currently watching is “NIGHT ON EARTH” and it’s very good.

WRITING

Drafting down blog content is another practice that helps me unwind and relax. Just like reading, I also find writing as an escape from reality. Writing helps you remain organise and better understand your thoughts. Writing, is in fact a highly recommended exercise for de-stressing.

What to do when you feel unmotivated

Hey Lovelies! Happy new year!  I hope you are all doing good and staying safe.

Since this is my first post for the year, I have decided to make it a positive one for anyone feeling unmotivated. Trust me, there’s someone out there right now who feels that he/she has flopped 2021 already.

Some days you wake up with so much motivation and ready to go and some days you just feel heavy and find it hard to keep going.

So today, I will simply be sharing three of my favourite ways to find motivation again.

  1. Remember why you started

When you are feeling unmotivated, just ask yourself this questions;

  • What will my life look like in 5/10 years if I continue on the same path and remain consistent?
  • How will my life change negatively for me and the people around me if I stop?

Just spending 5/10 minutes doing that will/should turn your mood and mindset around and awaken your motivation again.

2. Be around people with good energy

Talk to the people around you about their dreams and what motivates them.

Another way to gain back your motivation is by tapping into the motivational energy of the people around you.

3. Just get started and let the motivation kick in

In the case where the top two tips does not work well for you, what then can you do? Well, I will suggest you take a break from everything to recharge. Sometimes, that is all that is needed.

Sometimes I take a break from everything and sometimes I let the motivation kick in by getting started anyways.

The moment you take the first step, the next step becomes a bit easier and by the next step, the motivation is catching up and you will start to enjoy yourself.

Don’t forget, you do not have to feel motivated every day and that is perfectly OK!
